Well I'm probably not the best person to give advice, as I am still trying to figure out how to record better myself. But I record currently with a computer mic hooked up to my laptop and a free recording type program I found called Audacity. It is of course not the best way to record but it captures the basic sound and you can at least start getting your music out there. If I ever figure out how to better record I'll try to let you know.
